About the Universities for Nottingham Co(l)laboratory Programme

Co(l)laboratory is a new research programme, led by Nottingham Trent University and the University of Nottingham, that puts community knowledge and experience at the core of research. Co(l)laboratory takes a unique approach to PhD research, offering a new way for researchers to work closely with local communities and organisations to create and deliver new research, based on the needs and priorities of the people of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.      

Co(l)laboratory takes on unique and talented candidates, providing them with training in research skills, civic leadership, evidence-based policy, and more, developing them as community research leaders, and enabling them to bring about meaningful change through their research.

This application form is for those applying for a 2024 UfN Co(l)laboratory PhD Studentship for a specific Co(l)laboratory PhD project only. Once you have created an account, you will be able to begin your application and save your progress as you go. Your application account allows you to return to your application at any point. Eligibility Criteria

Before submitting an application to the Universities for Nottingham Co(l)laboratory PhD Studentship Scheme 2024, please ensure that you have read through our eligibility criteria information IN FULL. All applicants must meet our minimum eligibility criteria to be considered. Applications which do not meet our minimum eligibility criteria will not be considered. These criteria apply to all applications, whether the project applied for is hosted at Nottingham Trent University or the University of Nottingham. 

  • Applicants must be available to begin study at Nottingham Trent University or the University of Nottingham on our 3rd April 2024 entry date. Successful applicants must be available for induction events on the 15th and 16th April 2024.
  • This scheme is open to UK students only. (Applicants are not required to be current residents of Nottingham or Nottinghamshire.)
  • Those currently enrolled in a doctoral level degree or who already hold a doctoral level degree are not eligible to apply.
  • Each applicant can only submit one application relating to one project from the list of available 2024 UfN Co(l)laboratory PhD projects. 
  • To be considered, complete applications with all supporting documentation must be submitted by the deadline of 12pm on Friday 15th December 2023.
